What is ArchServer?

ArchServer is a respin of Arch Linux, designed to be more suitable for servers.

What ArchServer is NOT

ArchServer is NOT:
  • a stable version of Arch Linux for desktop use.
  • released yet.
  • a system administrator. While it is aimed for server use, and may include some features to make life easier for system administrators, it will not do your job for you.
  • a pencil sharpener. Please refrain from inserting pencils into ArchServer.

Differences between ArchServer and Arch Linux

  • ArchServer will have specific releases, rather than using the rolling-release model that Arch Linux uses.
  • ArchServer has a stronger focus on stability and security, rather than always having bleeding-edge software like Arch Linux.

Similarities between ArchServer and Arch Linux

  • Both systems use pacman for package management.
  • Both systems utilize the BSD-style rc init system.

Current State of ArchServer

ArchServer is currently still in the initial development and testing stages. It is not suitable for production use yet. We are in need of additional team members to contribute to the project through testing, packaging and documentation, as well as other areas. See the wiki for further current information.

Blue Hackers

Blue Hackers started with the last lightning talk at OSDC 2008... A quick show of hands on who else had dealt with (or was dealing with) depression. The objective of this initiative is to make visible that there are many fellow geeks among us who are intimately familiar with depression, anxiety, or bipolar disorder. It helps to know you’re not alone. And it's not because we’re geeks, but because we’re human. The ArchServer Project recognizes and supports the Blue Hackers initiative.
